Building ESG reporting capability with no mandate behind it

Four groups that ask for emissions data mapped to what each wants, with the regulator link broken because most Canadian and US companies have no mandate.Four groups that ask for emissions data mapped to what each wants, with the regulator link broken because most Canadian and US companies have no mandate.

Let us take the weakest version of this argument first, because it is the honest one. If you are a privately held Canadian manufacturer, or a US company outside California with no European turnover, no regulator currently requires you to measure or publish your greenhouse gas emissions. The CSA paused its mandatory climate disclosure work on 23 April 2025 and that pause is still in effect. CSDS 1 and CSDS 2 exist and are voluntary. The SEC's rules are stayed and it has proposed to rescind them outright.

So nobody is coming. That is the actual position and any article that implies otherwise is selling you something.

The case for building the capability anyway has nothing to do with regulators. It rests on the fact that four other groups ask the same questions, on their own schedule, and none of them paused anything.
